March 2026
March got off to a purposeful start, with the team’s attention split between the ongoing overhaul of 30076 and preparations for the Steam Up weekend. In the shelter, needle gun derusting of 30076’s side tanks was well underway, alongside welding of the channels that will carry the sander pipes. Earlier in the month the boiler washout on 30075 was completed following the internal inspection and flushing through of the boiler. The washout plugs have now been fully reinstated, including those within the smokebox area, with threads cleaned and seats checked prior to refitting to ensure sound sealing. January 2026
Work on 30076 continued earlier in the month with further progress on the side tanks, including cutting the recess slots, fabricating the steel channels, and continued derusting by wire brushing. Later in the period, the cab doors were removed, along with the drain cock mechanism, which was taken off and placed into store for safekeeping.
