Finally, work has been able to start gathering momentum again, given the return of the injector. With its arrival mid-month, attention turned to refitting and resolving fitting issues, while work continued on the eight-plank (ex-ash) wagon.

The injector for 30075 was finally returned by the contractor, allowing refitting to commence. Initial attempts revealed a misalignment between one of the supply pipes and the injector cone base, due to a design difference. Measurements were taken, and machining adjustments were planned, with John Drew taking the component for rework. Concurrently, new gaskets were cut and fitted, and the small injector was temporarily removed to facilitate access. The large injector was successfully fitted in the last week of January and is now in situ. Replacing of steam piping is now starting to take place.

Following discussions regarding the significant delay, the contractor offered to overhaul the large injector from 30076 at no cost. This was accepted, and the component was packaged and dispatched to their workshop in Macclesfield.

Weather conditions ranged from bitter cold and snow to unseasonably warm days.

Despite difficult weather over the last 6 months, track is being laid by Shillingstone Station at a good rate, which will allow us to hopefully run along that track soon.

Meanwhile, work on the eight-plank wagon continued. The main frames, door fittings, and buffer components underwent de-rusting and received coats of Jenolite rust converter and grey undercoat. Additional efforts focused on tapping out holes for cover plates around the side tank brackets, refurbishing a malfunctioning needle gun, and continuing preparation of the wooden doors for primer.

Watch for our updates as we refit the pipework and tanks and work towards an exciting spring and summer.
